AI has the potential to speed up our progress towards a thriving future, or to add to the pressures and extraction on the planet. The difference is how we choose to use it. Nicky O'Malley is a global changemaker working at the front line of this question. She is part of the global cohort of the Earthshot Prize nominated AI accelerator community and part of She Shapes AI, founder of SOWN and CEO of 30x30 UK. Nicky uses AI with her teams, with a focus on responsible and ethical use in service of the Global Goals, our planetary to-do list, in this decade of action. In this talk she shows what responsible AI looks like in practice: where it supports a thriving future for nature and people, where it needs guardrails, and how any leader can start putting it to work for a better future.

Our economic system makes decisions based on prices that don't reflect their true cost. We have been living off free ecosystem services from Mother Nature, effectively borrowing from our own future. By not pricing externalities, we systematically underprice extraction and undervalue restoration. This talk explores what it means to begin pricing the environmental and social costs of our operating models and how forward-thinking C-suite leaders can be rewarded in organizations that account for these true costs. Nicky offers a practical framework for CFOs and C-suite leaders to integrate to address the tension between financial returns and long-term impact and brings useful case studies and examples to showcase effective action successfully in play around the world.
